Kid-Guru is the brainchild of stay-at-home mom, Mallika Malhotra, who launched her appliquéd t-shirt collection just weeks after the birth of her second son. In September 2004, she took her passion for style, her entrepreneurial spirit and her personal collection of Asian fabrics to create a line of vibrant infant and toddler tees.

Embracing her Indian and Filipino heritage, Mallika designs her t-shirts using traditional ethnic patterns in a modern, kid-friendly style. The hand-crafted line features fabric appliqués of dinosaurs, butterflies, turtles and more. Each playful image has its own charming personality due to the limited quantity of the Asian prints.

Raising her two young boys full-time, Mallika conducts business out of her northern California home. She utilizes the marketing skills acquired in her pre-motherhood advertising career. She continues to find inspiration from her own kids, her diverse background and overseas travels. She hopes that her willingness to trek to Asia for exotic textiles will set her apart from the competition and appeal to style-savvy parents and gift givers.

It all started when Mallika discovered a box of beautiful sari silks collecting dust in her mother’s closet. These hidden treasures were wedding gifts to her mother from the 1960’s. A very pregnant Mallika gathered the vintage textiles and began planning her new at-home business venture. Since then, she has spanned the world to collect more exotic fabrics. Mallika Malhotra has taken these vintage materials and infused new life into them so a new generation can enjoy the colorful designs.
